Job Description

Introduction:

Heyman Associates is a leading executive search firm specializing in senior level roles exclusively in the communications, corporate affairs, marketing, and investor relations professions. Heyman Associates was established in 1989 and for over 35 years, has worked with the world’s best organizations to identify talent who elevate brands and cultures, protect reputations, and powerfully engage stakeholders for success. Building professional connections, engaging with industry top talent, and partnering with impressive clients is all in a day’s work as a Research Associate with Heyman Associates. Our boutique approach and close-knit team allows for collaboration, growth, and unique opportunities within executive search. Our clients include prominent companies, prestigious universities, nonprofits, trade associations, and innovative growth companies across the globe to hire senior leaders.

Role Summary:

We’re seeking a Research Associate to step into a newly expanded role as we evolve our research function to be more insight-driven, tech-forward, and integrated across our firm. This is a high-impact, high-visibility opportunity for a junior professional to work directly with senior partners and contribute to the heart of our search work.

The ideal candidate brings 2-3 years’ experience – whether in research, recruiting, communications, or another fast-paced, professional services environment – and is eager to learn, problem-solve, and bring fresh thinking to our work. This individual is someone who blends strategic research capabilities with strong analytical thinking, excellent written output, and a keen interest in emerging tools and technologies, especially AI. The Research Associate will be central to driving search strategy, delivering smart and visually compelling client materials, and shaping how we approach talent mapping and market insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead candidate sourcing and industry mapping efforts, leveraging a mix of AI tools, LinkedIn, internal databases, and online resources to build high-quality pipelines for active searches.
  • Support the full cycle search process, including candidate tracking, document creation, and general search management.
  • Create polished, insight-driven deliverables such as competitive landscape assessments and market maps.
  • Create position descriptions based on existing client position descriptions or from scratch, tailoring each to a client’s specific needs.
  • Draft and deliver polished and timely updates to the client on search progress; support the firm in tailoring and modernizing client facing templates and update materials.
  • Identify and test emerging research tools and platforms to improve workflows and increase efficiency across the team.
  • Collaborate closely with senior partners to identify trends, synthesize candidate insights, and shape search strategy.
  • Track candidates’ status throughout the search’s life; regularly communicate to and correspond with candidates ensuring that they are kept up to date on all stages of a search.
  • Contribute to larger firm culture and development by providing insights from active searches, candidate conversations, and overall market insights gained through a search process.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and business news; take lead in reporting key trends and talent movements to the team.
  • Support business development on an as needed basis, completing projects such as compensation research, target company mapping, and target candidate profiles.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date information on each search and every candidate in our database.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and ideally 2-3 years professional experience in research, recruiting, communications, consulting, or related fields.
  • Technically confident – adept or interested in learning and understanding AI tools and helping improve internal research workflow and resources.
  • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience dealing with competing deadlines; ability to multitask and handle shifting priorities.
  • Poised and mature demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Intellectually curious; motivated to learn about new industries, companies, and business needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Personable and professional; able to communicate confidently and with discretion with senior executives and candidates.
