About AJ Tutoring

AJ Tutoring helps students achieve their educational goals through professional, one-on-one tutoring and college counseling. With 300 employees across 16 Bay Area locations, we are committed to meaningful, high-impact work—and we know our people make that possible.

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to lead HR operations and strategy in partnership with the executive team. This role is ideal for someone with deep HR knowledge who enjoys both high-level planning and hands-on execution.

Your Impact

  • Champion a positive, high-trust, and inclusive culture
  • Lead hiring and onboarding strategy across the organization
  • Oversee performance reviews and employee development systems
  • Manage benefits, employee relations, and compliance (with an emphasis on CA law)
  • Conduct internal investigations with professionalism and discretion
  • Provide HR coaching to managers and team members
  • Strengthen systems, processes, and metrics that support people and performance
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership

What We’re Looking For

  • 3-5+ years of progressive HR experience, including time in a leadership or strategic HR role
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law and compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and partner across teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable using Excel to analyze data and generate HR reports; experience with modern HRIS platforms for employee data management and process automation
  • Ability to manage and manipulate HR data using Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data validation) and streamline processes through online HRIS tools
  • A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution
