Excess Underwriter / Broker

Property and Casualty Insurance Industry

Become part of an expanding and vibrant wholesale operation. Evaluate insurance applications, alongside (APD/MTC) reports from loss control consultants and other relevant data, to ascertain their appropriateness for available programs. Assess the risk experience against the specific business category under examination. Analyze potential loss related to catastrophes, their severity, and frequency. Responsibilities may include rating policies or verifying that previous ratings were accurate. Apply knowledge of automated systems to gather information for new or renewal policies. Prepare quotes for agents and respond to inquiries from agents, policyholders, or potential clients. Aid agents by addressing their inquiries regarding applications and the likelihood of the company's acceptance. Review requests for cancellations, endorsements, and similar matters. Examine policies for renewal purposes. Request additional documentation required for processing applications, endorsements, or cancellations. Conduct marketing visits to agents.

A New Jersey Producer’s License is required. Must have over 10 years of experience in E&S brokerage. Previous involvement in insurance underwriting activities is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. Possess solid analytical abilities with an aptitude for detail-oriented tasks. Proven negotiation skills are a must. Familiarity with insurance coverage forms and their relevance to specific exposures is required. Awareness of departmental regulations and internal policies is important. Should be capable of working independently and completing tasks as per the provided guidelines, standard procedures, and accepted underwriting practices. Strong interpersonal skills are needed for collaborative work with staff and company underwriters. Experience with standard underwriting policies and procedures is essential. Relevant courses, classes, industry licenses, or designations are preferred.
